Simi Valley, CA (PRWEB) May 1, 2008

In Legacy: The Life of Nikola Tesla, author Norma Brody chronicles the amazing life and times of the scientist who brought alternating current to America.

While most readers are familiar with Thomas Edison, his scientist rival Nikola Tesla is not as widely known. Norma Brody seeks to change that by bringing Tesla’s accomplishments to the forefront with her fascinating new biography, Legacy: The Life of Nikola Tesla.

In his prestigious career, Nikola Tesla changed the course of science. The father of radar, robots and wireless transmissions, he challenged the theories of Edison by insisting that current could be alternating as well as direct. Winning the first contract to build a generating plant at Niagara Falls with George Westinghouse, Tesla also introduced robotics at the Chicago World Fair. A contemporary of Mark Twain and Albert Einstein, Tesla was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics, yet his name is not always recognized and touted in classrooms and scientific circles.

In her book, Brody brings Tesla and his world to thrilling life, giving him the recognition he deserved, but may not have achieved in his lifetime. As entertaining as it is educational, Legacy: The Life of Nikola Tesla is a book for anyone who loves science, biographies, or who simply wants a page-turning read.

For more information or to request a free review copy, members of the press can contact the author at gesteinc@aol.com. Legacy: The Life of Nikola Tesla is available for sale online at Amazon.com, BookSurge.com, and through additional wholesale and retail channels worldwide.

About the Author

Norma Brody is a substitute teacher, literary manager and writer. She lives in Simi Valley, Calif.

Williamstown, MA (PRWEB) May 11, 2004

www.VYZMUSIC.com has been launched to promote the new movie “NOVUS” (short for “Novus Ordo Seclorum-New Order of the Ages”). This artistic, non-narrative, documentary film, created by the musical group, “VyZ,” celebrates one of the world’s greatest inventors: Nikola Tesla. Tesla was amazing. He was the world’s most famous man at the turn of the 19th century. His best friend was Mark Twain. He is the forgotten electrical genius of our modern Space Age. Everytime we turn on a light, startup a car, use a computer, or watch a tv, it is thanks to Tesla. He invented AC electricity, the electro-magnetic motor, radio, loudspeakers, the Tesla coil, vacuum tubes, x-rays, remote control, radar, robots, ignition systems, the speedometer, fluorescent lights, neon, particle beams and registered over 300 patents. A century later, many of his discoveries are just beginning to see the light of day. His real secrets, however, are still classified under the National Security Act of 1947.

As the second film in the “Connect the DotZ” film series, “NOVUS” paints an inspiring, yet highly controversial, picture of Tesla’s most incredible invention, which was his greatest secret: the flying saucer. Do flying saucers really exist? Did Tesla really invent them? Are they humanity’s greatest invention? What about free unlimited energy? The playful combination of mother goose nursery rhymes, pirate cartoons, superman, ufo mythology, black hole astronomy and investigative journalism, evoke a trailblazing tale of the past 100 years with an optimistic vision of the future. While avoiding the cliché of “New World Order” conspiracy theory, the film does “connect the dots” to the genius of Tesla and the real possibility that we can create a better world: A New Order of the Ages.

As an experimental film, “NOVUS” is not only unique in its audio-visual treatment, but also serves as a springboard for discussing contemporary issues about humanity, technology, astronomy, art and innovation… especially in the context of Tesla’s connection to our 21st century. Can we reverse our global cycle of destruction? Can we reverse our selfish ways? Can we stop polluting our planet? Can we replace the fossil fuel driven, “Old Order,” with a “New Order” of clean electrical energy? Can we make a new start? Can we make the impossible… possible? These are the questions beneath the surface of the movie.

THE “NOVUS” PRODUCTION

The film features the timeless animation of master animators, Ray Harryhausen, Max Fleischer, and John Sutherland, which is artfully woven together with archival footage from ephemeral films and NASA Space imagery. Although the film is a completely digital production, the filmmakers’ goal was to produce an organic, analog experience that compliments their improvisational music. Of special note is the “VyZ” filmmaking process that creates the film from the soundtrack… hence the “VyZ” slogan: “ImproVyZational Music for Movies.” The “VyZ” filmmaker-musicians all work together during the film editing process, which is inspired from their music. This multimedia band of digital artists consists of Rich Damone on bass; Charlie Tokarz on sax, clarinet and flutes; and John Pritchard on drums, percussion, and keyboards. The soundtrack also features special guest, Adam Holzman, who is known as one of the world’s greatest keyboard players for working closely with Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Grover Washington, and many others, including his own band, Brave New World.

THE “CONNECT THE DOTZ” film series

Like the music of “VyZ,” the “Connect The DotZ” film series is centered around the themes of FREEDOM, VISION and CREATIVITY. All three film titles in the series come from the three Latin phrases on the back of the American dollar bill: UNUM (E Pluribus Unum), NOVUS (Novus Ordo Seclorum-New Order of the Ages), and ANNUIT (Annuit Coeptis-God favors our undertakings). “NOVUS” promotes the VISION of Tesla to harness the Electrical Power of the Universe, the Quantum Foam, the Ether, that surrounds us at all times. While it is an astronomical fact that we travel around the center of our Milky Way galaxy at 500,000 mph, it is less understood how Tesla was able to harness all that cosmic electricity in which we move…let alone, invent the flying saucer.

The first “Connect the DotZ” movie, “E PLURIBUS UNUM – Out of Many, One,” was completed in November 2003 and celebrates the legacy of JFK and the FREEDOM of America. The third movie, “ANNUIT COEPTIS – God Favors Our Undertakings,” is a free-form documentary about the “VyZ” band and their CREATIVITY. It is currently in production and slated for release in June 2004.

The “Connect The DotZ” film series celebrates the inspiration of great men like President, John F. Kennedy, the brilliant inventor, Nikola Tesla, and the ancient Greek mathematician, Pythagorus. It champions the human heart to be free of the negative forces that have tied us to slavery and greed since the beginning of time. The series has been created as a trilogy of educational DVD movies to spark discussion about the amazing and chaotic world we live in today, as well as, discuss our options for the future. The “Connect the DotZ” film series is produced by the Pritchard School of Digital Arts (www.pritchardschool.com).

The “NOVUS” movie trailer and DVD preview can be seen at www.vyzmusic.com where the DVD and soundtrack can be purchased directly from the site. A free educational “Study Guide” (pdf file) can also be downloaded for students to use in the classroom, home study, or for personal enrichment.

I recently saw the movie “The Prestige”. The story is about two ferociously rival magicians and is set in the 1890’s. A sub-plot in the movie concerns the largely forgotten rivalry between scientists and inventors Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. Entrepreneurs today can learn much from the Edison/Tesla saga.

Thomas Edison is one of the most famous and revered Americans of all time, and deservedly so. School children are taught that he harnessed electricity, invented the light bulb and the phonograph. He was awarded 1093 patents during his long and rewarding creative life. His summer laboratory in Fort Myer, Florida is still a major tourist destination. In addition, Edison earned millions of dollars by commercializing his patents and product innovations. To this day we have all benefited from his genius.

Nikola Tesla, on the other hand, is virtually unknown today. He was born in Serbia, moved to America and became one of the most renowned scientists of his day. He was in many ways, the prototype for the “mad scientist” so often depicted in books and movies. His eccentricity and poor business decisions were the stuff of legends. And yet, Tesla’s inventions and scientific advances are as important in our contemporary lives as Edison’s.

As a young immigrant scientist Tesla actually worked for Edison. Edison held the patent on Direct Current (DC) and was, as always, aggressively pursuing commercialization of his patents. The famous banker J. P. Morgan was an early financial backer of Edison’s DC. Edison constructed a generator in New York City that could provide the miracle of light in homes, including Morgan’s Murray Hill mansion. It was considered a wonder of the day.

Tesla, however, recognized that DC had serious limitations, specifically in delivery of electricity across a vast grid. He championed Alternating Current (AC). Edison was furious. AC was a direct attack on his patents. He had no commercial claim to AC power generation. Tesla left Edison and the two great scientists became lifelong enemies.

Tesla introduced his theories on AC to George Westinghouse, another foe of Edison. The two became partners and a race between the devotees of AC and DC current commenced. Westinghouse and Tesla believed AC to be superior to DC because of the arc and greater footprint of power the system could deliver.

Edison, an unusual combination of man of science and excellent business- man, conducted an aggressive; some say savage public relations campaign to support his convictions that DC was the better technology. He conducted public electrocutions of animals in an effort to prove that DC was a safer, cleaner source of power. He even allowed DC to be used in the first electrocution of a death sentence criminal. This public display was botched and the criminal was re-electrocuted in a horrible manner. The public was shocked.

Meanwhile, Tesla was tasked by Westinghouse to harness the power of Niagara Falls to generate safe, widely disseminated electricity by utilizing the AC technology. The test and subsequent grid performance confirmed that AC was the superior technology. Morgan and Edison were forced to purchase interests in AC.

Thomas Edison prospered for the rest of his days. His connections with J.P. Morgan lead to the establishment of General Electric, one of the world’s great enterprises to this day. He died rich, revered, and famous.

Tesla was an immense contributor to the evolution of our modern power system. The many scientific tasks involved in electrifying the United States and the world would have occurred much more slowly without his inventions and creativity. Tesla was crucial to the perfection and acceptance of AC, the standard used to this day. And yet Tesla died broke, alone, flustered.

Edison invented the light bulb. However, without electricity delivered widely, safely and affordably the light bulb was of little value. A car without the internal combustion engine is a wagon. Similarly, Tesla’s perfection of AC was the tool that made the light bulb so valuable. Tesla’s success inadvertently affirmed Edison’s legacy.

Edison could sell. He was a genius at self-promotion. He could seek and obtain capital based on his reputation. He had charm and charisma. Edison created a legend for himself.

Tesla had none of these qualities. He made poor business choices. His reputation for being difficult closed many promising commercial doors. Tesla was dark and dour. English was his second language and he was never comfortable in a public format. His science has become obfuscated by his many futuristic predictions. Much of modern pseudo-science and today’s UFO acolytes rely on morsels of Tesla’s preaching.

The ability to commercialize inventions is the key difference between creative types and successful entrepreneurs. We all know people with vibrant imaginations and inventiveness. We all also know how few of these people succeed at successfully converting imagination into reality.

A successful entrepreneur needs a variety of skills and talents in order to cut through the din of our very competitive marketplace. Successful designers and engineers typically make great employees, unless they can communicate, sell, market and strategize. The inventor lacking in these skills has many other potential routes to success. Licensing, partnering and alliances are viable options.

Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Bill Gates and Ray Kroc are stellar examples of what it takes to succeed. They are multi-talented, adaptable and visionary. Nikola Tesla was a genius, but in only one area. His science is invaluable. Today, the personal, business and historic legacy of Tesla is mostly forgotten. Every student learns about Thomas Edison. It took an afternoon at the movies to remind me fleetingly of Nikola Tesla’s important contributions.

From Google Videos Nikola Tesla (10 July 1856 7 January 1943) was an inventor and a mechanical and electrical engineer. He is frequently cited as one of the most important contributors to the birth of commercial electricity and is best known for his many revolutionary developments in the field of electromagnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tesla’s patents and theoretical work formed the basis of modern alternating current (AC) electric power systems, including the polyphase system of electrical distribution and the AC motor, with which he helped usher in the Second Industrial Revolution. Born an ethnic Serb in the village of Smiljan, Croatian Military Frontier, in the territory of today’s Croatia, he was a subject of the Austrian Empire by birth and later became an American citizen.[2] After his demonstration of wireless communication through radio in 1894 and after being the victor in the “War of Currents”, he was widely respected as one of the greatest electrical engineers who worked in America.[3] Much of his early work pioneered modern electrical engineering and many of his discoveries were of groundbreaking importance. During this period, in the United States, Tesla’s fame rivaled that of any other inventor or scientist in history or popular culture,[4] but due to his eccentric personality and his seemingly unbelievable and sometimes bizarre claims about possible scientific and technological developments, Tesla was ultimately ostracized and regarded …

Who is Nikola Tesla

Who is Nikola Tesla?

Nikola Tesla was born in 1856 in Austria-Hungary and emigrated to the U.S. in 1884 as a physicist.

In the late 1800′s Tesla was as well known as Thomas Edison. In some circles he was even more famous than Edison.

Tesla is responsible for a lot of the electrical equipment we have today. He invented the motor that is still used today. His inventions focused on magnetic forces and currents. He was very well thought of during the late 1800s.

Who is Nikola Tesla was quickly answered during the year 1896. For it was Nikola who set up the system for the Niagra Falls hydroelectric plant. The first of its kind.

The down fall of Tesla came when many of his patents were sold . In 1988 George Westinghouse, head of the Westinghouse Electric Company, purchased the patents to many of his electrical motor plans.

Who is Nikola Tesla, also becomes known with many of our newer inventions. It is believed that Tesla set the foundation work for the further study and invention of the florescent light bulbs. It is also believed that he paved the way for the invention of RADAR tracking. Some of his technology is still in use today.

Who is Nikola Tesla is a question that is puzzling. He invented numerous projects in the late 1800s yet he died a poor man in a hotel room in 1943.

After his death, the world honored him by naming the unit of magnetic flux density the “tesla.”

Because he was so involved in this technology he was thought of as Thomas Edisons rival. Unfortunately Edison received much more recognition than does Nikola Tesla in our history books!

The first was a particle-beam projector that Tesla intended to be used as an instrument of national defense. He called his system “teleforce.” One year later, on July 10, 1935, Tesla claimed a method to transmit mechanical energy with minimal loss over any terrestrial distance, allowing for a new means of communication and a technique for the location of subterranean mineral deposits.
